MARKET COMPASS
Tariff Agenda
- After Trump’s recent decision to postpone the tariffs, the markets continue to be relieved.
- While the 20% tariff on Chinese goods remains in place, the pause includes the basic 10% tariff on all countries.
- The statements of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) members that the US Federal Reserve (FED) will do what is necessary in the face of possible economic difficulties also seem to have contributed to the positive sentiment.
- After Asia, European stock markets are also positive today. Wall Street futures have a similar outlook.
- We observed a pause in digital assets, which accelerated during Asian trading.
With the recent developments that we mentioned in our last analysis, a short-term trend in cryptocurrencies was realized and a correction came afterwards. It is important to remember that price changes will continue to be “news-sensitive-dependent” due to Trump’s unpredictable behavior. The agenda on tariffs will continue and will continue to affect all markets. In this context, it would be beneficial for investors not to ignore this situation.
Digital Compass
We consider it a very important development that a strategic crypto reserve is on the agenda in the US, the locomotive of the world economy. However, the fact that the markets had already priced in the “best case scenario” before and after the US elections, combined with the “less than perfect” news on this issue, put pressure on digital assets. We continue to keep the strategic reserve issue in our equation as a positive variable for cryptocurrencies in the long run. On the other hand, we think that we may continue to see pressure in the medium term with the lack of new news flow that will create enthusiasm in the crypto market and further concerns in global markets that global economic activity may slow down, especially with Trump’s tariffs. In the short term, markets will continue to be sensitive to macro indicators and developments regarding tariffs.
