Trump Greenland Tariffs

Trump announced that he is using tariffs as leverage to get Greenland to agree to be purchased by the US. According to the announcement made on January 17, the US will impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1, 2026. It was stated that this rate will be increased to 25% starting June 1, 2026. It was stated that the tariffs will remain in effect until an agreement is reached on the full purchase of Greenland. While eight European countries described the threat as unacceptable, EU leaders emphasized a united and coordinated response.

Interest Rate Message from Fed Members

  • Fed Vice Chair Jefferson said interest rates are currently in a good position and he does not expect a rate cut in January. Jefferson noted that the cuts made since 2024 have brought the policy rate to a neutral range and that there are signs of a slowdown in the labor market.
  • Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Bowman said she would support monetary easing if there is no clear and sustainable improvement in the labor market. Bowman said the labor market is close to full employment but is becoming increasingly fragile.

US Supreme Court Schedule

The US Supreme Court has set Tuesday as the next date to announce its opinions. It was noted that if the decision on the customs duties case is not announced next week, the process could be extended for at least another month. It was stated that judges generally only take the podium regarding cases that have been heard. Wednesday will be the last meeting day before the Court’s recess, which will last until February 20.

China-Canada Trade Step

China and Canada announced progress in strengthening economic and trade ties. Consultations were concluded in the areas of electric vehicles, steel and aluminum, canola, agriculture, and aquatic products. Canada will grant China an annual quota of 49,000 electric vehicles, subject to a 6.1% MFN customs duty. China, in turn, will reduce import tariffs on Canadian canola and launch a visa-free entry program for Canadian citizens.

Fed Chair Uncertainty

It has been reported that the Trump administration’s criminal investigation into Powell has weakened Hassett’s chances of being appointed Fed chair. The Wall Street Journal wrote that if Waller is selected, Powell may not remain as Fed governor. According to Polymarket data, Warsh is the strongest candidate for the next Fed chair with 55%. Trump stated that if Hassett leaves his position as director of the White House National Economic Council, the administration will lose an important economic spokesperson.

Ethereum Transaction Record

According to TheBlock data, Ethereum transaction activity has increased significantly since the middle of the last 12 months. The seven-day moving average daily transaction volume reached approximately 2.5 million, hitting an all-time high. This level is nearly double that of the same period last year. At the same time, average $gas fees fell to around $0.15, reaching one of the lowest levels in the network’s modern history. According to Etherscan data, the average $gas fee for trades executed on Sunday was approximately $0.04.

Paradex Under Temporary Maintenance

Paradex, the perpetual futures DEX in the Starknet ecosystem, announced on its official website that it is undergoing temporary maintenance. Although the estimated maintenance period has ended, the protocol is still offline. According to community feedback, some users were forcibly liquidated due to abnormally high funding rates. Paradex is described as a Layer 2 application chain based on Starknet infrastructure that combines Paradigm liquidity with DeFi’s transparency and self-custody model. The project is said to be the result of a six-month collaboration between StarkWare and Paradigm.

Grayscale Chainlink ETF

Grayscale announced the launch and trading commencement of the Grayscale Chainlink Trust ETF (GLNK). The fee rate for the product has been set at 0% for the first 3 months or until $1 billion is reached. After this period, the management fee will be 0.35%. Grayscale stated that GLNK is not subject to the 1940 Investment Company Act. It was noted that the ETF does not directly hold $LINK and that investors may face the risk of losing their entire principal.

Hyperliquid Regains Leadership

According to CryptoRank data, perpetual contract trading volumes declined significantly following the Lighter airdrop distribution. Weekly trading volume decreased by approximately 3 times compared to peak levels. Hyperliquid, however, rose back to the top with a trading volume of approximately $40.7 billion over the last 7 days. During the same period, Aster recorded a volume of $31.7 billion, while Lighter recorded $25.3 billion. Hyperliquid ranked first in terms of 24-hour open position size with approximately $9.57 billion.

Avalanche Active Address Record

According to official Avalanche data, the number of daily active addresses on the C-Chain reached 1,379,136 on January 13, 2026. This level was recorded as the highest daily active address count in the network’s history. Previously, the daily active address count ranged between 300,000 and 600,000. The sudden increase signaled a noticeable recovery in activity on the chain. The official announcement described this development as “The chain is waking up.”

Aster Buyback Plan

Aster announced that it will use 20% to 40% of its daily platform fees for $ASTER buybacks. It was stated that buybacks will be dynamically adjusted according to market conditions to reduce the circulating supply. This step was implemented following the previously announced fifth phase buyback plan. The first automatic buyback transaction was executed from Aster’s reserve wallet. The on-chain address of the transaction was shared as 0x5E49…a397.

Sui Mainnet Update

Sui Network announced that the mainnet has been upgraded to version V1.63.3 and the protocol has been moved to version 107. It was stated that the update aims to optimize the path for transactions to reach final confirmation. It was also announced that the issue of consensus failure among validation nodes in rejected transactions has been resolved. Validation nodes are prohibited from signing transactions via the RPC interface and sending batch-signed transactions. The upgrade is said to aim to increase network stability.

Fidelity Crypto Outlook

According to CoinDesk, Chris Kuiper, Vice President of Research at Fidelity Digital Assets, said that digital assets are becoming a structural layer of finance. Kuiper stated that 2026 could be the year when the broader market recognizes this transformation. He likened digital assets to standard metal containers that transformed global trade. The Fidelity research report noted that despite weak price performance in 2025, significant progress has been made in infrastructure and regulatory frameworks. The report emphasized that major banks have announced their intentions to develop capabilities in the digital asset space.

ALT5 Sigma Notice

Treasury company ALT5 Sigma Corporation announced that it has received a compliance notice letter from Nasdaq. The notice stated that the company had fulfilled its periodic financial reporting obligations and that the delay issue had been resolved. The company reported that financial statements are now being submitted on time. It was recalled that ALT5 Sigma had received a warning from Nasdaq in November due to reporting delays. The latest announcement stated that this non-compliance had been resolved.
