US Government Shutdown Risk
Markets await Tuesday’s Senate vote, with no agreement yet reached on the temporary budget bill. The probability of a U.S. government shutdown before January 31 has risen to nearly 80%. Some lawmakers proposed separate voting on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding, but Senate leadership distanced itself from this option. Delays in voting due to the snowstorm and Congress going on recess further complicated the process. If the bill is not approved by midnight on Friday, many federal agencies will face a partial shutdown.

Trump said that reducing the number of immigration enforcement personnel sent to the state would be considered. He also said that coordination with the Department of Homeland Security would be ensured so that the state could conduct an independent investigation. It was emphasized that the meeting was aimed at reducing tensions on the ground.
- Trump sent border chief Tom Homan to Minneapolis to reduce tensions caused by federal immigration enforcement. Trump announced on Truth Social that Homan would meet directly with Governor Walz. The visit is intended to contribute to the implementation of policies in coordination with local authorities. The move comes after protests and political pressure in Minnesota.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, Trump’s overall approval rating has fallen to 38%, the lowest level of his term. In the previous poll, this figure was measured at 41%. Support for immigration policy also declined. The percentage of those approving Trump’s immigration policies fell to 39%. This rate was 41% at the beginning of the month.
South Korea Tariffs

The tariff increase emerged as a new source of tension in trade relations.
