“Trade Wars and Geopolitical Risks”
Trump’s moves on tariffs continue to create turbulence in global markets. The President’s statements yesterday and his decisions to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China are creating risks and uncertainty about both “trade wars” and “inflation”. These countries are trying to respond to the US with retaliatory tariffs. Moreover, the Donald Trump administration has halted all military aid to Ukraine. Perhaps for the first time since the Second World War, Europe will have to deal with such a situation without US support.
“Risk Aversion”
This risk aversion led to a sharp sell-off in Wall Street indices yesterday. Following a similar outlook in Asia, European stock markets are also on a downward trend today. As investors’ demand for safe assets increased, gold and bond prices rose while bond yields declined. As a result of these dynamics, almost all of the gains recorded by digital assets (more in some assets) were given back with Trump’s statements on the “strategic crypto reserve”. It seems that the perception of the balance between risks and expectations will continue to change frequently. Within this ecosystem, we think it would benefit investors to know that volatility may remain high in the short term, although we do not change our general view.
The Big Picture
For a long time, in our analysis of digital assets, we have been saying that “we expect volatility in the short term, pressure in the medium term and bullishness in the long term.” The uncertainty created by Trump in the political environment, especially with the tariff tool, and the roadmap he followed on Ukraine were an important dynamic. However, we can state that the catalyst for the undeniable rise of digital assets has largely ended with the President’s latest crypto asset assessment. Therefore, by adjusting the new weighting in our equation, despite the recent tariff tension, we change our general view to “bullish with intermediate corrections“. At this point, as we mentioned yesterday, it is worth noting that although the first statement on the reserve issue, which the crypto ecosystem is eagerly awaiting, it is necessary to continue to closely monitor political, geopolitical and macro dynamic
