Trump Increases Pressure on the EU

Trump is increasing the risk of escalation in the US-EU trade dispute by continuing to pressure European leaders. In a message sent to the Norwegian Prime Minister, he linked his claim on Greenland to his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize and said that his priority was no longer peace but US interests. He argued that the US should have complete control over Greenland for global security, questioned Denmark’s sovereignty, and asked NATO to take steps in favor of the US.

EU Emergency Summit Decision

EU Commission Spokesperson Gill announced that the EU will hold an emergency summit in Brussels on the 22nd to discuss Trump’s tariff announcements targeting European countries opposed to his stance on Greenland. Possible EU countermeasures will be evaluated at the summit. Meanwhile, the President of Finland said, “I don’t think the US will militarily control Greenland.” The Danish Foreign Minister said, “The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected.”

US Treasury Secretary Bessant

US Treasury Secretary Bessenter said, “We have four distinguished candidates competing for the Federal Reserve position, and I expect an announcement as early as next week. The economy will perform strongly this year, with real GDP growth of 4-5%.”

Powell Supports Cook

Fed Chairman Powell plans to attend the Supreme Court hearing on January 21 in the Cook case. Powell will be present at the hearing as an observer, publicly supporting Cook. Previously, he had refrained from commenting on the case so as not to upset the president.

China GDP Data

  • According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China
  • Fourth-quarter GDP rose 4.5% year-on-year, in line with expectations.
  • Industrial production came in above forecasts at 5.2%, while fixed asset and real estate investments continued to decline sharply.
  • December retail sales rose 0.9%, falling short of expectations. The urban unemployment rate stood at 5.1%.

Order Restored in Iran

Iranian Security Forces Commander Radan announced that order had been fully restored in all cities across the country following the recent protests. It was stated that security forces would continue operations until all individuals involved in the incidents were apprehended.

Musk X Algorithm

Elon Musk said the X platform algorithm still needs significant development. He stated that the new algorithm is open source for transparency and that external auditing is now possible. The algorithm uses the same Transformer architecture as xAI’s Grok model.

FCA Stablecoin Event

The UK Financial Conduct Authority announced that it will hold a “Stablecoin Sprint” event in London on March 4-5, 2026. The event will address the regulatory framework and operational standards for stablecoins in payment systems.

Coinbase Davos Agenda

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong will participate in drafting US crypto market structure legislation in Davos. Armstrong will discuss stablecoins, collaboration with banks, and how tokenization could transform the financial system with global leaders.

Injective Community Approves IIP-617 Governance Proposal

The Injective community approved the IIP-617 governance proposal, which makes significant adjustments to the $INJ token economy, with a 99.89% staking vote. This proposal will reduce the local token supply and continue to implement the buyback and burn mechanism based on protocol revenue. Injective stated that approximately 6.85 million $INJ has been burned to date and that the new mechanism will make INJ a more deflationary asset in the long term.
