US Crypto and Fintech Groups Call on CFPB to Preserve Open Banking

According to CoinDesk, organizations representing the crypto, fintech, and retail sectors in the US have jointly called on the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) to preserve open banking rules. The coalition, formed by organizations such as the Blockchain Association, Cryptocurrency Innovation Council, National Association of Convenience Stores, and National Retail Federation, warned that large banks’ attempts to charge fees for data access could disrupt the financial system’s integration with digital wallets and stablecoins. The groups stated that weakening Rule 1033 could cause the US to fall behind major economies such as the UK and Singapore in open banking.
