Economic Realities and Tariffs
- After the optimistic mood on tariffs dissipated with the latest developments, the markets started to evaluate the economic realities a little more. In addition to the statements of the US and Chinese governments accusing each other, it is seen that the time for a permanent agreement is also narrowing after the temporary compromise between the two countries.
- The Caixin PMI for China, the world’s second largest economy, unexpectedly fell to 48.3 last month. This marked the worst reading since Setembro 2022 and reflected the result of Donald Trump’s tariffs.
- Asian stock markets were buoyed by expectations of stimulus amid bad data. Europe, on the other hand, is struggling with its own problems today. Wall Street is expected to start the new day slightly lower due to the aforementioned dynamics. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) officials’ statements and JOLTS data will be monitored later in the day.
- We foresee a sideways trend for major digital assets in the short term. We maintain our upside view for the medium and long term.

Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS); Shows the number of job openings during the reported month, excluding the agricultural sector. This JOLTS data is closely monitored as job creation is an important leading indicator of consumer spending, which accounts for a large share of overall economic activity. It is released monthly and approximately 35 days after the end of the month. A lower-than-expected release is expected to have a positive impact on cryptocurrencies.
